We live in the super instant generation. The Sigit, an international indie band which came from Bandung, said on their lyric in New Generation song that:
“We
are the noodle generation. Our foods made are made of preservation”.
It means that people nowadays more
excited in every way which just need a short time to be processed but deserve
the splendid result. That’s now happening.
People create a creative technology and
system, while the other people use it for helping them in the working area. Including
in the accounting sector, we, as an accountant in whatever level, were helped
by the sophisticated software. We are all do familiar with SAP (System
Application and Product). This software was invented by 5 ex-employee of IBM in
Mannheimm, Germany at 1972. They developed SAP to help them in 3 big sections;
finance, logistic, and human resources.
Despite the expensive cost of the investment
and maintenance this software, a giant and already established company realize
that SAP would be increase their effectiveness and efficiency. With a little
bit training and several times trying, a non accountant employee is
able to do the simple accounting job. Example of the easy job which can be done
by non accountant worker is: posting journal in SAP. This jobs seems be easy. But, it’s risky. Why is it risky? Every journal which were posted, related
to the profit and loss, balance sheet, and financial statement directly. Financial
report is the culmination of an accountant’s job. Then what is going to happen
when the-posting-journals-man do not know the expected result of his job? That’s
the point.
Because although the entire
accountant’s job can be done by this software, but actually we, as an
accountant have to reconcile and correct it before show it up to the financial
report user. What seems like doesn't seem like what it's actually is. There is
much breakdown step which needs a keen on accounting knowledge, deep
understanding of accounting theory, and many years experience in the practical
ways.
In the end, it is clear that accountant’s
position won’t be defeated and displaced by technology or system. Precisely, those
sophisticated software will be accountant’s tools and weapons to finish their
job in a smarter way.
We are all accountant just have to
keep learning.
